Our partnership with The Modesto Bee has ended this year. However, we will still be selling papers on the corners, Tuesday May 12, 2015. The papers will be The Salvation Army’s,"New Frontier Chronicle.” We will still be thanking all of our donors in a large thank you ad that will be purchased from The Modesto Bee. All of this to say…we still need YOU!

Here are some things that were accomplished in 2014:

  • A new food program was started. Kids who come after school to the shield for tutoring and sports now get a healthy and hot meal. Approximately 60 children per day are enjoying good healthy food, and that number is consistently growing!
  • The at-risk teen program that was started in 2013 is bringing in three times as many teens that would attend the Shield just 3 short years ago.
  • Our boxing program had its first Diamond Belt Champ winner! Marcos represented California in Las Vegas a few months ago, and he won. He is now working towards Olympic tryouts.
  • The tutoring program that is helping children with homework and academic development has doubled in attendance. A program that once was housed in 1 room – now is held in 3!

Things are happening and change is being made in South Modesto, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of the community! You can be a part of this by giving us a donation or help us by selling papers on the street on Tuesday May 12, 2015.
