Kids' Day provides an opportunity for you to help local children. The Modesto Bee in partnership with The Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center, is dedicating Tuesday, May 13, 2014 to kids. Last year, our Kids' Day efforts netted over $75,000 to fund afterschool tutoring programs, scouting troops, summer day camp & camp, basketball, baseball and other sport programs.

What Can YOU do to help?

  • Volunteer to sell papers on May 13th by emailing Pete Michelini: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  • Donate to Kids’ Day by using the “Donate” button on the top of this page.

  • Purchase Kids' Day papers to distribute to your friends or customers.

  • Remind your friends, employees and neighbors to "have a $1.00 ready on May 13th!”

  • If a company would like to sponsor this event call 209-262-0479 and speak with Lt. Caroline Rowe.

Who Benefits?

The kids benefit by participating in -

  1. Afterschool tutoring
  2. Typing class in the computer lab
  3. Swim lessons in the community pool
  4. Scouting programs
  5. Baseball County League
  6. Basketball
  7. At-risk Teen Program
  8. Summer Camp

What we have accomplished over the years due to YOUR donations!

  • In the past 5 years The Red Shield has tripled the numbers in the at-risk teen program - touching more teens that are high risk than ever before!
  • The Shield also has a full functioning computer lab where community children can come and learn how to type and practice testing for school.
  • The boxing program is now sanctioned, and hosts 2 events yearly. This gives children the self esteem and discipline to tackle life!
  • The gymnasium has now been refurbished and serves 50-100 people daily!
